Something ugly: Recycling boxes

The only ugly thing I could think of is the depressing recycling boxes outside my house. We are all short-term tenants, so nobody bothers about tidying it up. They were a surprisingly good motive - I often find that drawing something makes me see it in a completely new light.

The drawing is done in gouache which I haven't much experience with. I like the opacity of gouache, but I need to learn to use it better. I keep trying to use it like watercolour.

I am not terribly happy with the drawing, but I am running out of time, so this will have to go up as it is.

  1. Wow Gry! This is actually a beautiful piece of artwork. However, I can see why you said they upset you. (I guess this shows how cathartic art can be.) Sharon.

  2. Wow Gry, I really like the colours... don't think I've seen you do much in colour before. Nice! What exactly is gouache, btw?

  3. Thanks!

I struggle to become better with colour, but haven't quite found a medium I like.

Gouache is like watercolour but more opaque. If you think of art decor illustration, like Erte, it is often done in gouache.
